Mixing & Mastering

The process of harmonizing individual recorded tracks and elevating them into a final audio source ready for the listener. Through precise placement of each instrument, frequency organization, and dynamics control, we clarify the original intent of your composition.

Mixing is more than simple volume adjustment. It is the design of an emotional flow, deciding which element takes the lead at any given moment. At Maravediflow, we aim for a balanced, transparent sound regardless of the musical genre, ensuring that every layer has its own space.

Mastering is the final stage of processing applied to a mixed stereo file. We adjust the overall loudness and tonal balance to meet the technical standards of streaming platforms or physical media. This ensures your music maintains consistent quality across various playback environments, from studio monitors to mobile devices.

The Production Process

Our studio follows a structured four-step workflow. We prioritize communication at each stage to ensure the final result aligns with your creative vision.

  1. Asset Review and Analysis

We examine the provided multitracks (stems) to analyze the song structure, tempo, key, and the desired sonic direction. We verify that all necessary files are present and check for any recording inconsistencies that need addressing.

  2. Balance Construction (Mixing)

We establish volume balances, panning for spatial positioning, EQ for frequency cleanup, and compression for dynamics control. The core elements of the song are emphasized to create a mix without muddiness.

  3. Final Adjustment and Mastering

Once the mix is confirmed, we refine the overall tonal balance and apply limiting to reach commercial loudness standards. We balance tight low-end punch with high-end clarity to complete the professional polish.

  4. Review and Revisions

The completed audio is delivered for your feedback. As specified in our business rules, we provide up to 3 rounds of revisions to fine-tune the details and ensure the result is correct.

Who This Service Is For

Our engineering services are designed for artists and creators facing the following technical challenges:

  • Musicians who recorded at home but find the overall sound muddy or lacking professional separation.
  • Producers where specific instruments, particularly vocals or bass, are buried under other sounds.
  • Artists whose tracks sound significantly quieter than other songs when played on platforms like Spotify or Apple Music.
  • Creators with a clear concept who are unsure how to express that vision acoustically.
  • Clients who have worked with multiple engineers but have not yet found a balance they are satisfied with.

Technical Approach and Methodology

In our mixing process, we prioritize "subtractive" thinking. Instead of simply increasing the volume of everything, we cut unnecessary frequencies to create natural space for the essential sounds. For instance, we perform precise EQ processing to resolve conflicts between the kick drum and bass in the low-end, or to increase vocal clarity in the upper-mid range.

We also utilize spatial effects, such as reverb and delay, to add depth and width to the composition. We can add a natural sense of air to dry recordings or deliberately tighten the space for more aggressive tracks to create tension. Every decision is based on the genre and the emotional context of the music.

During the mastering phase, we conduct checks across multiple listening environments. We monitor the track not only on studio speakers but on various playback devices to ensure there are no extreme peaks or phase issues. This results in a stable sound that is comfortable to listen to regardless of the hardware used.

Client Preparation Requirements

To ensure a smooth start to the project, please prepare your data in the following formats. For more details, see our Guide to File Formats and Delivery.

  • Multitrack Data: Individual WAV files for each instrument and part (44.1kHz/24-bit or higher recommended).
  • Tempo Information: The exact BPM (beats per minute) of the track.
  • Reference Tracks: One or two existing songs that represent the sound image you want to achieve.
  • Instruction Note: Specific requests regarding parts you want to emphasize or expressions you wish to avoid.

Deliverables and Output

Upon completion, we provide the following files. All deliverables are supplied in high-quality WAV format.

  • Full Mix Master: The final completed audio file (WAV / MP3).
  • Instrumental Version: A backing track with vocals removed (upon request).
  • Stem Files: Grouped files for drums, bass, instruments, and vocals (optional).
  • Technical Specifications: Sampling rate and bit depth are set to the optimal values based on the original recording material.

Timeline and Scheduling

Typically, it takes 7 to 14 business days from the receipt of materials to the delivery of the first draft per song. If revisions are requested, additional days will be required depending on the scope of the changes.

Urgent projects can be discussed separately, although we maintain a minimum timeframe to ensure quality. For B2B contracts, payment is required within 14 days after delivery.

What Is Not Included

This service is specialized in acoustic processing. Please note that the following are not included in the standard mixing and mastering fee:

  • Recording Sessions: This service processes existing data. If recording is not complete, please use our Vocal Recording services.
  • Arrangement Changes: We do not change the song structure, melodies, or add new instruments.
  • Extensive Pitch/Timing Correction: Heavy pitch correction (e.g., extreme auto-tune effects) or complete rhythmic quantization may incur additional optional fees.
  • Copyright Management: We do not handle copyright registration or distribution procedures.

Pricing Plans

Pricing is calculated per track. We provide both VAT-inclusive (10%) and VAT-exclusive prices. For detailed conditions, please review our Terms of Service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many revisions are included for free?

We provide up to 3 rounds of revisions per song. These are intended for fine-tuning, such as volume balance or frequency adjustments, rather than major changes in direction.

How long do you store the project data?

The studio archives project data for 12 months after completion. Data is generally deleted after this period, so we recommend maintaining your own backups after delivery.

Can I request this service online?

Yes. Data transfer is handled via cloud storage, and feedback is exchanged through email or chat. You do not need to visit our Yokohama studio in person.

What is the payment schedule?

Individual clients are required to pay a 30% deposit before work begins, with the balance due upon delivery. B2B clients follow our standard 14-day payment term.
